help morgan be top boy @columbia university

it's me morgan.
thank you for finding yourself here on this page and for reading these words, i appreciate you so much.

and also, hello i've been accepted into the playwrighting MFA @ Columbia University in NYC.

my statement of purpose was about buffy the vampire slayer. it was really good and i want to share it with you. it says why im choosing an mfa program better than my free-form typing will.

“into every generation, there is a chosen one. one humxn in all the world. they alone will wield the strength to stand against the vampires,; to stop the spread of their evil and they are the slayer.”

writing plays is how i fight in a world that doesn’t think i should exist. i am dreaming new worlds that center my lived experience and the experiences of people like me(queer, non-binary, brown, femme, adopted, loud, sensitive), making us heros.  i identify my work with the buffy of the exciting/problematic world in the joss whedon cannon. this tv version buffy has a take no bullshitattitude  while keeping it upbeat, killing the big bad, still making it to the dance on time, wearing a strong look, spitting a clever quip, throwing arms loyally over friends shoulders.

i am receiving great support (the schubert award and the theater program scholarship  ) for the program and am ready to make some bonkers work at this level after working as an accounting assistant for 45ish hours a week for over that past decade, which was honestly great, didn't use my gifts to the best of my ability.

i need help as i am choosing to follow my life path as a writer and pack up the last 15 years of my life here in chicago to make this wild life change. your gift will make my path to new york possible by providing the necessary relocation and moving costs i need support with.

please make a donation if :

*you believe it's important for me and my work to be in the space

*you want to see more fantastical  stories that center humanity outside of the white cis able-bodied narrative

*if you have loved my work in the past, if you love my work now

*if you are engaged by how sexy and fun and scary the worlds i make are

*you believe in radical collaboration, if you think that having a QTPOC having mentorship and access at this level is important.

if you are able to donate, wow, thanks so much. if you can share it with your friends, co-workers, fam, enemies, who want to make a donation for PRIDE month or is wanting to somehow make reparations, amazing. if you are glad i'm leaving town and wanna throw money at getting me out faster, word.

truly am so grateful for you.
