Support Morah Zena!

Our friend and long time beloved Scheck Hillel teacher, Morah Zena, needs our help!

About two months ago, Zena’s colleagues at Hillel requested a meeting with her. At the meeting, they explained to her that she had recently exhibited some unusually forgetful behavior, lack of focus, and intermittent confusion. Thankfully, her colleagues were looking out for her and spoke up. She was very surprised to hear this, but after some persistence and urging from her family, Zena agreed to let her daughter take her to the ER. After a brain CT was performed, the results showed that she had a brain tumor about the size of a ping pong ball pressing up against her frontal lobe. We then understood that this was causing all of her symptoms. She had brain surgery the very next day to remove the brain tumor and the surgery was successful as reported by her surgeon; the tumor in its entirety was removed. The biopsy showed melanoma, and there are other areas of concern.

Zena is currently recovering from the brain surgery and undergoing intensive speech therapy, and needed occupational and physical therapy at a rehabilitation center. She needs to receive the immunotherapy medication every three weeks intravenously. She also needs radiation therapy to her head soon to prevent the cancer from returning.

Needless to say, this has all been quite a shock for Zena and her family. She knows that the road to recovery will have its share of ups and downs, but she is motivated to fight this so that she can continue to spend time with her children and grandchildren and share in their smachot for many years to come. These funds can really help Zena in meaningful ways. Insurance will most likely not cover all the significant medical expenses she will incur, and with your help Zena can get back to doing what she loves most. The funds will allow Zena to focus on her recovery and healing in a complete and comprehensive manner.

Morah Zena has been an ECE teacher for nearly 30 years. As her community who cares deeply about her, we are humbly turning to you for assistance. Zena is synonymous with Hillel and its core values of Respect, Kindness, Truth, Peace and Spirit. She exhibited them every day while at work and continues to exhibit them daily to the best of her ability. We know many of you and your children have benefitted from Morah Zena’s warmth, love, kindness, enthusiasm and care. Her students have always been her top priority. Now please make her one of yours.
