Morag lives in Carmarthenshire within a couple of miles of the West Wales coast where we have made a life since my retirement in 2016. First, we had a small holding where we raised sheep, ducks and hens and latterly in a small village where we are living with our two cocker spaniels, Bella and Boris. During this time Morag has run a small bookkeeping business supporting several local businesses.
Those who know her will tell you that Morag is kind and generous and is always willing to help others. She has supported people through illness and hardship even when things have been difficult for her.
When we moved to Wales Morag saw that a lot of older ladies living in the area had no social contact outside that they had with their husbands and were feeling isolated without female companionship. She, therefore, started a “Ladies Wot Lunch” group arranging regular ladies only lunchtime meets.
In 2024 when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer, she was there for me every step of the way and when our friend was having treatment for skin cancer she ferried her about for treatment without a second thought for herself. She has also supported a long-time friend who lives in Reading and has terminal bone cancer. Visiting her regularly, hosting her at our home and even taking her on what is likely her last oversees holiday while newly diagnosed with cancer herself.
Unfortunately, it is now time for Morag to ask for help.
In October of 2025, Morag was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. At that point, the cancer was curative with some help of preliminary chemotherapy followed by surgery. Unfortunately, the cancer & Morag’s gall bladder did not respond well to the chemotherapy, at times making her very unwell.
On 1st December 2025 Morag was rushed into hospital where she spent most of the month undergoing treatment for sepsis and pneumonia, being released on 23rd December. Since then, Morag has been back to hospital four times, three times via A&E for issues related to inflamed and infected gall bladder. This means that in the five months since November Morag has only completed one full course of chemotherapy. Sadly, this now means that at this time the NHS see Morag’s tumour as inoperable as it would involve specialist arterial grafting surgery that NHS Wales cannot provide.
The family have sought the help of a specialist surgeon in the private sector as this is our only hope of a cure. Morag will have to travel to London for the operation where she will stay until she is fit to make the long journey back to west Wales. This recovery will include stays in an Intensive Care Unit before moving into a normal hospital bed.
Morag’s family are kindly funding the huge cost of this surgery, which will to be more than £60,000. However, there are many other costs that we need to cover to ensure Morag has the best chance of life. We are therefore, asking if you would be so kind as to contribute to these costs which include the following.
Travel costs to and from London
Accommodation
Additional nights in hospital
Follow up hospital appointments.
Additional procedures such as six weekly visits to change her gall bladder catheter.
Additional testing and examinations such as CT scans, blood tests.
We appreciate times are hard for everyone at this uncertain time and every single penny raised will be very much appreciated to help us through this difficult time. Your help and generosity will ease some of the financial worry at a very emotional time.
Thank You so much for you help.
