Meet Moose, a one-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer with a heart full of adventure and a family who adores him beyond words.

While out in the woods doing what GSPs do best: running full speed, exploring, and living life to the fullest, Moose suffered a devastating and life-threatening injury. His family rushed him immediately to Northeast Animal Hospital, thinking he might just need a few stitches. He had a deep puncture wound on the left side of his neck and chest that appeared to be caused by a stick.

However, the situation was far worse than anyone imagined.

After X-rays, bloodwork, oxygen support, pain medication, and emergency care, the veterinary team discovered air trapped inside Moose’s chest. Fearing internal damage, Moose was urgently transferred to Eastern PA Vet Medical Center for more advanced treatment and surgical evaluation.

There, a surgeon delivered heartbreaking news that the puncture wound wasn’t the most serious issue. Moose had a fractured rib that had punctured his left lung. He is currently still hospitalized (see estimate in photos).

Moose urgently needs life-saving surgery to remove the trapped air, repair his lung, and possibly remove a damaged portion of it. Without this surgery, Moose will not survive.

Moose’s family is doing everything they can to save him. They have always been the first to step up for others by volunteering in the community, helping others, and giving back whenever they’re able. Now, they’re the ones who need help.

The medical bills are already significant and continue to grow by the hour while Moose remains hospitalized. Surgery, supportive care, imaging, oxygen therapy, and round-the-clock monitoring come with overwhelming costs, far beyond what most families can manage alone. The surgical quote is between 10-12 thousand dollars.

Moose still has so much life to live. He’s goofy, energetic, loves chasing birds, splashing through streams, and snuggling up at night. His family cannot imagine life without him.
