Our beloved cat Monty is very poorly, and I’m desperately trying to get him the care he needs.

Monty is not even two years old yet — he turns two in May — and he is normally a playful, loving boy who fills our home with love and happiness. Seeing him so weak and unwell has been absolutely heartbreaking.

Because I have recently broken my ankle, I wasn’t able to take Monty to the veterinary clinic. Thankfully, a vet was able to come to the house to examine him.

During the examination, the vet found that Monty had a slight temperature, a distended and tender tummy, and diarrhoea. She explained that he may have ingested something toxic or been poisoned, but without further tests it’s impossible to know for certain.

Those additional tests and treatment were estimated to cost around £1,500, which is sadly far beyond what I can afford right now as a pensioner. One of the most upsetting moments was when euthanasia was mentioned as an option if I cannot afford the tests and treatment. Monty is still such a young cat, and the thought of losing him like that is devastating.

Right now I am caring for him at home as best I can. Monty is very lethargic and weak and not eating very much, so I have been gently giving him fluids with a syringe to keep him hydrated. He has tolerated that so far, but he is still very poorly.

Monty also has a brother, Marlo, and the two of them are incredibly close. They are always together — playing, sleeping, and keeping each other company. Marlo seems very confused right now and keeps looking for his brother, which makes this situation even more heartbreaking.

Monty means the world to me. He is not just a pet — he is family. I just want to give him the chance he deserves to get the tests and treatment that could help him recover.
