My name is Bertha Castillo. Monse and Mayras family are near to my heart and my best friends. I am setting up this GoFundMe page on their behalf.

On September 12,2022 the unimaginable happened to their father, Martin Almanza. He was on his usual nightly walk and was a victim of a fatal hit and run. It is with a heavy heart to report the family is grieving. Nobody expects a sudden loss. We are humbly asking for donations so that Mayra and Monse’s Family can mourn their father and put him to rest in his home country. Their lives have forever changed and will continue to be impacted in so many ways. We thank you for your considerations, compassion and generosity.

“Fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian hit and run. Assistance needed.

On September 12, 2022 at 8:54 p.m., the Gilroy Police Department received calls reporting a hit and run vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Wren Avenue and El Cerrito Way. Police, Fire, and Medics responded and immediately began first aid. The pedestrian victim, an adult male and Gilroy resident, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The suspect vehicle was described as a gray or charcoal colored SUV with front-end damage. The suspect vehicle was last seen fleeing the area northbound on Wren Avenue from El Cerrito Way.

The Gilroy Police Department is looking for witnesses who may have witnessed the collision or have surveillance footage that may have captured the vehicle in the area before or after the collision.
