Hi my name is Nina and I run a pet shop in Monmouth with the help of Pete and my father. We are an independent, family-run pet shop who pride ourselves on the wellbeing of our pets and being at the heart of the Monmouth community for owners and their animal friends.
In the early hours of Saturday 15th November we were alerted by a colleague that the river Monnow had flooded all the way into the main street. There had been no alert for this and we were all shocked. We rushed to the shop to evacuate the animals, but were stopped by the police as the flooding was so high. The amazing SARA team went into the shop and rescued around 80% of the animals in our care and took them to safety.
When we finally got into the shop, we were met with the chaos Storm Claudia had caused.
Unfortunately our insurance is now refusing to pay out due to an exclusion clause - apparently when our insurer sold to a different company and they were meant to give us a like for like policy it seems this was not the case.
The amazing community has helped us clean up the floor and wash down the fixtures that could be saved, but we have had to throw away so much stock. We also want to make sure our staff are safe and secure in their jobs and that we do not have to close.
Any money raised will go towards
- replacing stock
- replacing some of the freezers/fridge
- fixing the animal main pen flooring
- repairing or replacing areas of flooring that are starting to rise from water damage
- fixing or replacing doors that now won't close due to the moisture
- replacing other lost electrical goods and general items that had to be thrown away
- carpet cleaning of the stairs
- general cleaning and maintenance
A heartfelt thank-you to the community that have helped us so far.
