During the month of December 2023, I started experiencing muscle weakness, limping, trouble lifting my legs, and even difficulty putting on my clothes. A few friends told me I should go to the doctor.
On December 25, 2023, I had planned to go to the ER. When I got out of bed that morning, my right leg gave out, and I fell to the ground. I tried to get myself back up but could not.
The ambulance was called, and I was transported to the hospital. Once at the hospital, I underwent a lot of tests and diagnostics.
I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease called transverse myelitis, which is inflammation of the spine. The signals in my brain were not completely reaching my legs. This issue has left me bed-bound, not able to walk, and loss of functionality with certain systems.
The doctors first tried steroid treatment, which was ineffective. The next treatment was called plasmapheresis, or plasma exchange. This process was also to help clear out the inflammation.
I completed my fifth treatment of plasmapheresis, and my next step is to go into an inpatient rehabilitation hospital to learn to walk again.
I have not been able to work and need help with a few bills as well as some of my medical expenses. My current insurance does not cover everything, and I will have to come out of pocket to help pay for some of the rehabilitation.
Since the last treatment of plasmapheresis, I have been able to notice improvement in the movement of my legs. I am confident I will make a full recovery with the help of rehab and physical therapy.
I thank you in advance for any donations you are able to make and for helping me on my road to recovery. Peace and love.
