Hi, my name Christine Jacobson. My friend Monica is in medical crisis and needs our help. Close friends helped her write this about the situation:
“Hi, my name is Monica Rose Koenig Bell. Monica Rose, for short. As I write to you, I am in critical, life-threatening medical condition.
I am so scared right now.
Some of my symptoms include:
Urinating up to 40 times a day, causing chronic sleep deprivation and need to wear an adult diaper,
Back, neck, and other joint pain that impact my ability to carry out everyday life functions (such as shopping for groceries and preparing food) and make sleeping and resting difficult and sometimes impossible,
Significant weight loss and nutritional difficulties,
Hyperphagia (an insatiable hunger and inability to feel full even after eating and lasting late into the night, adding to my intense sleep deprivation),
Alternating bouts of nausea and vomiting,
Deep unpredictable fatigue,
Profuse night sweats,
Difficulty catching my breath,
Chronic post nasal drip,
Overall muscle weakness
This is why: After about 8 years of failing health, I became seriously ill in 2023. That is when the community helped me see a specialist that diagnosed a serious kind of non-anemic iron deficiency. This helped me basically regain my health in 2024. But rebuilding my life has been overwhelmingly difficult. Years of illness ruined my ability to qualify for most rentals. Lack of awareness about my type of iron deficiency keeps me from social supports like disability recognition to access housing and help getting back to work. As a result, I was without a stable place to live since January. I stayed in places like my car, hotels, or with friends. My iron recovery and overall health backslid during that time. I became extremely sick and more severe issues piled on top of my iron symptoms. Thankfully, this July I got back into a stable living situation. But after moving in, my medical situation worsened to a life-threatening medical crisis. I've been in and out of the ER over and over.
Most of the expenses required for me to recover are not covered by insurance, so I have to pay out of pocket. And, because of the seriousness of my condition, I am currently unable to work. I have almost no money left for my medical and other basic needs and my family is not able to support my recovery at this level of medical crisis.
So, I’m reaching out to you. I am trying to raise $52,879 to pay for appropriate medical care, which looks like hours with medical specialists, in-home care, expensive lab testing, out of pocket medications and supplements, and medical supplies like
adult diapers and bed liners. As well as help paying for my basic expenses like rent, utilities, and phone while I cannot work.
I am using a hashtag for my recovery journey, #TheRosebudPilgrimage, which is a reference to the future work I hope to share when I am better. I wish I had the capacity to tell you the full story of what it means, but right now I'm too weak and sick to do that.
Thank you so very much for considering helping me right now. Any funds you are able to contribute are greatly appreciated.
Your prayers, good thoughts, and well wishes are very welcome.
With sincerity and gratitude,
Monica Rose Koenig Bell
