Early on Sunday morning our niece Monica’s apartment in Quito caught fire. Monica, her partner, and their children were asleep when the fire started. It appears a TV in the living room short-circuited, went up in flames, and the fire spread to the front of the apartment.

They were unable to exit through the front door because the fire was concentrated there, but they escaped through a back window and were helped onto a neighbor’s balcony. Unfortunately, almost everything they owned was destroyed or rendered unusable by the fire, the heavy smoke, and the water used to put out the blaze. They’ve lost clothing, furniture, mattresses, and most of their household belongings.

We’re raising funds to cover immediate and essential needs: clothing for the children, mattresses and bedding, basic furniture, and moving costs.

Ayuda a Mónica y sus tres hijos tras el incendio de su piso

La madrugada del domingo, el apartamento de nuestra sobrina Mónica en Quito se incendió. Mónica, su pareja y sus hijos estaban durmiendo cuando comenzó el incendio. Al parecer, un televisor en el salón tuvo un cortocircuito, ardió y las llamas se propagaron hacia la parte frontal del piso.

No pudieron salir por la puerta principal porque el fuego estaba concentrado allí, pero lograron escapar por una ventana trasera y fueron ayudados a subir al balcón de un vecino. Desafortunadamente, casi todas sus pertenencias fueron destruidas o quedaron inservibles por el fuego, por el humo y por el agua utilizada por los bomberos. Han perdido mucha ropa, muebles, colchones y la mayor parte de sus enseres del hogar.

Estamos recaudando fondos para cubrir necesidades inmediatas y esenciales: ropa para los niños, colchones y ropa de cama, muebles básicos y gastos de mudanza.
