Help Mongolian Children in Need
Tax deductible
Want to join me in making a difference this holiday season?
I'm donating and helping to raise money to benefit Maitreya Charity's work in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Any donation will help make an impact. They have 501(c)3 status in the US as well for tax purposes for those thinking about annual giving as we approach the end of the year. Here's their website: https://maitreyacharity.net/
I've worked directly with this NGO who generously helped me produce a documentary on winter air pollution's deadly impacts on Mongolians during my Master's program at Berkeley: http://cityofsmokeproject.com/
I have met the founding Rinpoche, the NGO director, and many of the staff members. They are all great people doing incredible, thankless work to provide direct aid to some of Ulaanbaatar's most needy residents.
The NGO provides essentials to some of Mongolia's poorest communities who are often beyond the reach of other government or NGO services: children suffering from malnutrition due to poverty, families unable to heat their dwellings in the -40C winters, incarcerated women and teens with inadequate clothes or educational supplies, and other extremely marginalized groups. I have visited many of the families that Maitreya serves while reporting and can attest that this NGO's work is invaluable to keeping many families alive during the harsh winter months.
They provide essential food supplies to single mothers on the brink, giving bulk rice along with meat and vegetables, coal (the only option) to heat their yurts and stay warm through the winter. They donate toys and books to orphans in a variety of institutions which are extremely underserved -- barren floors and walls. And they provide training programs for formerly incarcerated Mongolians to help them find employment. Along with much, much more. Most of the programs are aimed at helping lift families out of cyclical poverty.
Unlike many other religiously-affiliated groups in Mongolia, they do not proselytize and their aid isn't dependent upon participation in any religious programming. They simply give because it's the right thing to do.
