Hi everyone, as many of you know I am Monahsetah, and with great humility i'm asking for financial help at this time.
I'd like to start by saying that I have such an immensity of gratitude and love for my boyfriend William, my friends, my family, as well as my community, who has been checking in continuously. The outpouring of care keeps me afloat, and you all mean the world to me.
I'd like to share my story, because truthfully i am still in some level of shock; i genuinely cannot believe this all happened.
On September 15th, myself, my partner, and a group of friends went out to peppersauce cave to check out the underground tunnels.
About 100 feet from the very bottom of the cave, I hit a 15ft slide, and then broke my leg at the bottom, resulting in a snapped in half tibia and a shattered fibula. Because we were so deep in the cave, EMTs couldn't make it to us to administer any sort of pain management or proper splinting, so I relied on the quick thinking and make shift splinting of my friends, and a fireman. I broke my leg at 2pm, and for the next three hours, crawled out, which was the most physically painful and challenging thing i've ever done, and included pulling myself up a 90 degree mud covered ladder. Thanks to my friends, boyfriend, and three firemen, as well as my own fortitude, I was able to keep in good spirits, and made it out of the cave.
It was honestly one of, if not the biggest tests of my willpower I have ever experienced.
I spent three nights and four days at the hospital, where I underwent a surgery which entailed threading a titanium post down through my knee and through my snapped tibia, to allow the bone to grow back together properly during healing. Day after my surgery, as the nerve block was wearing off, I was experiencing excruciating pain because of a lack of adequate pain management due to a miscommunication which was absolutely not the fault of the hospital staff, and ended up being in pain consistently from about 11 am until 7pm.
The pain of the break, crawling through the cave, and the continuous pain after surgery has all been mentally trying, and now with my independent mobility at near zero, I am fully reliant on my boyfriend William, who has also had to take a substantial amount of work off to care for me round the clock. I am so grateful for him, and for my friends who help me with everything from feeding the chickens and dogs to showering and using the bathroom.
I am feeling very emotionally and mentally exhausted, as well as feeling the physical strain of movement on my body, and I won't be able to work at least for the next 4 weeks, maybe longer, and I won't be fully healed until 8 weeks have passed. On top of a looming hospital bill, I am starting to feel financially crushed and mentally daunted by my recovery process. For those of you who know me, you know i value my independence and I am an extremely active and busy person, so this is going to be a challenge.
I pride myself on my ability to take care of myself, so it is with the utmost gratitude that I ask for financial help at this time.
I cannot express in words how lucky I am to have my boyfriend, my friends, my family, and my community who continually support me and keep me in high spirits.
All things considered, I got extremely lucky that despite the severity of the break, I was able to make it out of the cave, and that I didn't hurt myself worse, I feel so lucky to be alive.
Thank you all so much, and please help me if you can.
Love always, Mona
