Help Momo with his unexpected health journey

Hi everyone, my name is Cassie.

To start, if you do not want to donate here and prefer to send an etransfer please send to fundsformo at Gmail.com using the PW mo2026
Mo (Momo) is my sister's little dog. Mo has recently caused quite the medical scare to not only his parents, but the whole family surrounding him. There have been a number of tests done already to try and help diagnose this cutie, but no long term results as of yet even after medications.

From our understanding with the information from our local vet Momo seems to be suffering from a condition called Liver Shunts. Essentially this is a condition that is an abnormal blood vessel that allows blood to bypass the liver, preventing the detoxification of blood thus releasing these toxins into Mo's body. This can be a life threatening condition if not diagnosed and treated correctly. If correctly diagnosed and treated via surgery the survival rate jumps to 85-95% versus suffering and having a poor quality of life for the next 10-12 months with a high chance of euthanasia due to severe neurological complications.

It seems it is not a fixable issue with just medications but an MRI/ultrasound is needed to officially diagnose his condition. Which means once an official diagnosis comes in, Mo may need to undergo surgery depending on the results.

Once a happy and energetic dog, now since the first sign of his symptoms he is very lethargic, suffering tremors and is anything but his normal self. These symptoms came out of nowhere, they came on so fast and sudden it appeared as if little Mo had a stroke with how he was acting. With the uncertainty of what brought this on, not knowing if he had somehow been poisoned or worse.

Currently on a daily basis Mo is having tremors regularly, causing him to lose balance and topple over. This is not how Mo should be living, with proper diagnosis and treatment he could be back to his happy energetic self.

Mo is like their child, my sister and her partner are absolutely devastated at the illness that has suddenly come on with their fur baby. Times are tough for everyone right now, and now with a very large vet bill dangling over their heads they are absolutely heartbroken seeing Mo suffer the way he is. It has currently been quoted a MINIMUM of $1,000 USD for the initial diagnosis (originally quoted to see a specialist in Spokane, WA.) We have the possibility of taking Mo to a specialist in Calgary, AB where that cost would then be converted to CAD. If the diagnosis is in regards to the above mentioned liver issue, Mo's parents may be stuck with a bill of at least $10,000 CAD for surgery not including travel, medications, specialty food and loss of funds for taking off work. ** Please note below documents state diagnostic imaging is available in Kelowna, BC, however it is not longer available.

We will be discussing with different specialists to figure out the best route to go, whether this is staying in Canada for diagnosis and treatment or having to go to the USA. Which depending on who has the better treatment plan, will depend on just how much this will cost overall.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot donate PLEASE share this wherever you possibly can in hopes we can raise enough to help little Mo get better as quickly as we can. We are all very anxious not knowing the exact diagnosis until the testing is complete.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read, and an even bigger thank you if you are able to donate or share this with others.

We will update here as we know more, especially if we raise enough to get the testing for Mo.
