Help Momo Heal His Brain and Get Back to Being a Kid

Our sweet 7-year-old son, Momo, suffered a traumatic brain injury in March 2024 after a playground accident. What initially seemed like a relatively simple urgent care visit for staples in his head turned out to be something much more serious. In the weeks and months following the accident, we came to realize that Mo had experienced multiple concussions and injured his brain stem.

Since that day, Mo has bravely battled Post-Concussion Syndrome — a condition that has drastically altered his everyday life. Over the last 14 months, he has endured severe vertigo, migraines several times a week, light sensitivity, and extreme motion sickness that can make even short car rides unbearable. He can no longer play the sports he loved, and he often has to leave playdates and family outings early due to his symptoms.

Just recently, he was also diagnosed with dysautonomia, a condition that affects how his brain regulates his body temperature. This means even a warm day can spiral into a debilitating migraine or vertigo episode.

We’ve spent thousands of dollars out of pocket on doctors, specialists, and therapies in an attempt to help him — some helped temporarily, but nothing has provided lasting relief. He is one of the less than 1% of children who do not recover easily from a concussion, and many doctors have simply been at a loss for how to help him.

Despite all of this, Mo remains his joyful, resilient self. He says things like, “I have bad headaches, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad day.” He’s a performer at heart, loves to sing, and has a special gift with animals — his beloved dog Fluffy is never far from his side.

This year, Mo was homeschooled and not only caught up to grade level but surpassed it. He’s fought so hard to be okay.

We’ve found a world-renowned rehabilitation center in Utah that specializes in treating people like Mo — with long-term post-concussive symptoms. The program is intensive and cutting-edge, offering 30 hours a week of targeted therapy over two weeks, followed by 8 weeks of aftercare. This place offers real hope — but unfortunately, insurance will only cover a couple hours a week and the rest of the cost is entirely out of pocket, which is 98% of the cost still.

We are humbly asking for help. The financial strain of more than a year of private therapies, appointments, and evaluations has stretched us thin, and this treatment — while essential — is more than we can take on alone.

We know Mo has a full, joyful life ahead of him — he just needs help getting back to it. We truly believe this center can change his future.

Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for donating if you are able. Every single dollar brings us one step closer to helping Momo heal.

With all our love and gratitude,
The Chamberlains
