Help Momo to Recover
Hello everyone,
I'm writing to you on behalf of my friend Momo, who recently went through a serious health ordeal and is still recuperating.
Momo is a passionate educator who has worked at Concordia Language Villages - Lac du Bois - for three summers and one school year. Momo has contributed greatly to the language and cultural programs of Concordia Language Villages, working with American youth and adults to share his passion for teaching French and teaching about his country, Senegal.
This October, Momo was diagnosed with blastomycosis, a serious and rare fungal infection in the lungs and requiring intensive medical care, including 17 days in the hospital. Blastomycosis is most common around the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys, Great Lakes, Saint Lawrence River, and the Western United States. The fungus also lives in Canada and is very unknown in Senegal. This hospital stay prevented him from working and earning money for some of his basic needs.
The current hospital bill comes to $124,148. Although the health insurance and Partners Care (financial assistance) will cover much of the costs, many medical costs remain uncovered, including fees for services not included in the Partners Care program. Momo will need follow-up care for a minimum of 6 months, taking daily medication and having frequent specialist doctor check-ins.
Imagine being in a foreign country and coming down with a serious disease, away from family, having only a small network of support! And in addition, navigating the complex logistics of receiving medical care and trying to pay medical bills in the US.
Today, Momo needs our help to raise $10,000 to cover medical costs.
If we were in Senegal, the cultural value of “Teranga” would mean receiving the most generous hospitality you’ve ever seen. Can we extend the same generosity to our friend Momo while he is so far from home?
Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a big difference.
Please donate or share this fundraiser to support Momo on his journey to recovery.
