She’s a daughter, a mother, a Mamaw, a friend, a sister, and fur mom. And now we need her to be a fighter! May 23, 2018 was a day we will never forget, a day that changed mom’s life forever.
As some of you may already know, Sherry has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Cancer. It started with a simple cough that was overlooked. After months of different medications and no relief she began to cough up blood and eventually was forced to face the music and be seen by a doctor once again. A chest X-Ray, CT scan, bronchoscopy and biopsy, PET Scan, blood work and MRI later they were able to confirm our BIGGEST fear.. Cancer. The tumor itself when found was already a great size and comprising a vital part of her left lung. The way it has grown is across the top of the lung and surrounding the pulmonary artery, making her tumor inoperable. The top of her left lung has collapsed and she has had serious shortness of breathe, causing everyday routine to become a struggle.
After further testing, the PET scan revealed it has spread to the lymph nodes in the left side of her chest, neck, left armpit and her bones (sternum and skull). Chemo, Radiation, and a little bit of faith, family and friend’s love is what we have to rely on to get my mom and all of us surrounding her through this battle of a lifetime. Her first treatment is tomorrow May 30, 2018. With it being a fast growing and aggressive cancer, they are treating it with an aggressive chemotherapy and radiation.
My mom is a single mother of 4, and grandmother to 6 that works her tail off to keep ends met. I’ve never met a more hard working, down to earth, and strong woman in my life. She would do anything for anyone at any given moment in time and expect nothing in return. I’ve done my fair share of receiving from her in my lifetime, and now it’s time for me to give back. She needs me, you, all of us right now.
I’m asking for the help of anyone who can. Whether it’s a .01c , $1 , $100, or simply your thoughts and prayers... Anything will help in support of this journey my mom is about to embark in life.
