Hey friends,
In December of 2024, my mom was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). After weighing her options, she decided to team up with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and fight this battle head-on. Since her diagnosis, she has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and an innumerable amount of other miscellaneous testing and procedures.
For over the last 20 years, my mom has been an employee of the New York Board of Education. She has spent a large part of her life sacrificing her time, energy, and patience for the sake of her students. She was unfortunately forced into early retirement due to her condition--so now she needs your help!
Because of her career at the DoE, her treatment has not led to financial ruin, but some things have not been covered. Earlier this month, she received a bone marrow transplant and is currently admitted at MSK in the Upper East Side. She will be discharged at the end of the month but will need to live in close proximity to the hospital for the next month or two, depending on her blood cell counts and other factors to be determined by her team of doctors.
As we know, rent is not cheap in this city. Her estimated cost for the first month is $5,000. This does not include the cost of transportation to and from the hospital for appointments, among other various expenses.
Any amount that you can kindly spare will go a long way.
Thank you!
