Help Mom Recover - Support Her in Getting the Help She Needs

Donation protected
My mother has had a series of unfortunate events since her initial fall in November 2023. She fell while chasing a bear out of her house. Yes, you heard that correctly. My 75-year-old mother lives in Lake Tahoe and bears are a thing. She was chasing the bear out of the house and she fell outside on the deck where she laid for nine hours before anyone found her. Initially, we thought she broke something, but it was just a bad bruise. However, that bruise turned into an infection that put her in the hospital. It was a long recovery that made her weak.

Toward the end of the wound recovery, she fell again due to being unstable because of being in a hospital bed for months. The second fall led to another hospitalization and a major surgery to remove a large area of infection in her backside. That recovery took months. The day before going home from the surgery recovery, my mom slipped out of bed at the rehab facility, hit the ground, and broke her titanium hip. Yes, she broke the titanium ball clean off. This required surgery, but they had to find the replacement parts. She lay in the hospital for four days before they took her into surgery. Once they put her under, her blood pressure dropped. They put her on her side and her lung collapsed. They canceled the surgery and it took nine hours for her to come out of anesthesia. We didn’t think she was going to make it.

The next day she had to go back into surgery since they couldn’t postpone the hip replacement. Because of her physical condition, the anesthesiologist told us that she might not make it, and if she did, she would probably be on dialysis. Fortunately, the second surgery was a success and she came right out of anesthesia, no dialysis needed. (That anesthesiologist did a fantastic job!) So now she has started her latest road to recovery.

But by now she has used up all of her insurance, her savings, and does not qualify to go into a rehab facility due to already using her allotted days. Currently, she cannot walk unassisted because of her body being so weak. She is weak because she has been bedridden for nearly 10 months. We want to get her home with an in-home caregiver and get her strength up so she can live independently again. She is determined to get her strength back. We’re so grateful that she is in good spirits and has a positive attitude towards her recovery. But, an in-home caregiver costs more than my brother and I make in a month combined.

So I am reaching out to all of you for some assistance to get our mom back on track. We are just looking for financial assistance to pay for her care. Anything that you could donate will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for reading all of this and for helping support our mom who has done so much for so many.
