Due to my father’s long battle with cancer, his transplant and treatments my mother was left with very little money.
Some of you may or may not know, but my mother has many heath conditions of her own: Recurrent ischemic TIA Strokes, Seizure disorder and White Matter Disease a condition very similar to Alzheimer's/Dementia which results in memory loss, cognitive impairment and balance problems. In addition to this, she suffers from sundowning.
When living with my sister in Idaho, she would wake in the middle of the night, drink gallons of water, and snack on weird things while everyone was sleeping. (Ex: coffee beans, pounds of peanuts) Because of this she suffered a stroke and hyponatremia in May, which landed her in the hospital for a week.
Whether she was living with Jessica or I, we took the best care of her possible including providing healthy food, social activities, medication management and taking her to her Dr. appointments.
However, her health and care needs have become more than we can handle.
She now resides in an Assisted Living Community where her health is monitored, she receives medication management, she eats healthy food, has access to Nursing staff 24/7, exercises daily and has a great social life.
In the few months she’s been there her health has improved significantly.
She is thriving!
Unfortunately, Assisted Living is expensive and her rent will increase over time as her memory and health gradually declines. As of now, her rent is $3000 and her income from Social Security is only $1500. We are waiting for VA benefits to come through which will give us an additional $1100. We are short $400 per month. We have been supplementing with her savings from the sale of the boat which is now gone. In addition, we have her medical bills to pay and at $1500 a month, her income is too high to receive Medi-Cal.
My Mom lost contact with her Japanese relatives many years ago. The Ellis’ are her only family.
Please help us keep Reiko healthy & happy for as long as can be. Any donation, big or small will be greatly appreciated.
