My sweet neighbor needs help. Seven years ago, her husband died suddenly at the age of 38, leaving her to raise their three boys alone - when the youngest was only a few months old. Just before the pandemic hit, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went through a mastectomy and chemotherapy while keeping her three sons engaged in virtual school (one in elementary school and two middle schoolers). In late December 2020, she began radiation. She has to go every day for 5 weeks to complete the full radiation cycle. Almost 4 weeks into her treatment, she contracted COVID at the hospital and had to be quarantined. She was very ill when she contracted COVID, but she pulled through. Unfortunately, the interruption in her radiation treatment meant that she had to start radiation over completely. She just restarted a second 5-week treatment window, which is causing her daily migraines, extreme fatigue, and severe burns on her chest and side.
While she was recovering from COVID, her landlord told her she needed to move out of the home she's been renting for the past several years because the landlord has decided to do a quick flip and sell the home for a large profit. What her landlord is doing is not legal, but she doesn't have the resources or energy to fight legally. She has told me so many times that she just wants peace in her life after the past several years of turmoil. She is unable to work because of her daily treatments and having three children home doing virtual schooling, so moving is a huge financial strain on her already very limited resources.
My neighbor is one of the kindest and most generous people I have met. She's never asked for anything, but she is always so gracious when I offer help. She has her boys bring over gifts for us when she's able. I want to help give her a tiny bit of peace so that she can move without any added financial or physical burden. Her boys have been through so much in their lives, so we want to try to keep them in the same schools they are in to avoid any added stress. We are devastated to lose them as neighbors but want to help her find peace.
(I'd like to maintain her privacy, but if you have any connection to potential rental properties in Raleigh, you can reach out to me for her contact info.)
