Help Molly get a Prosthetic!
Donation protected
Hi I'm Molly, and you may know me as your friend, family, coworker, fellow partier, unemployed comedian, local hot amputee, etc.
Also, as many of you know (or not), due to complications at birth, my right hand was amputated. I began wearing a prosthetic shortly after I was born until I was six. When I had my prosthetic in the mid 90’s the technology wasn’t what it is today. It was mostly for ‘cosmetic’ reasons and I found myself taking off the prosthetic to do my daily tasks -- it was getting in the way.
I fought the idea of a prosthetic for so long, mainly because I didn’t want to feel like I had to have one to appear “normal” and my first prosthetic didn’t work for me. I was proud of myself for figuring out and navigating a world that seemingly wasn’t made for me, all on my own.
However, in the 20+ years since I’ve had an accessibility device, the technology has changed in profound ways. And in those 20 years, I worked at bars and restaurants, carrying heavy dishes and trays, worked in an office, hunched over desks, and as a student carrying heavy backpacks -- overexerting what little function I have in my left arm/hand.
As I get older, and the pain in my left arm/hand flares up, I panic when I realize I want to start a family of my own someday soon, and because of my disability, it will be 100x harder. Recently, I have been thinking more and more about how freeing it would be to have some extra help to carry out even my most mundane daily tasks.
I’ve reached out to TrueLimb and they have approved me as a candidate for a prosthetic! Which means I could soon get this life changing technology that has the potential to impact my life in truly unfathomable ways. https://www.unlimitedtomorrow.com/
I have gotten a donor to cover half of the total cost of the device, which has been a blessing beyond words! So, now I am humbly asking any family or friends that are in a position to make any donation, if they would be willing to donate to help offset the remaining amount ($4,000).
I would normally never ask for this type of help -- as you all know I am fiercely independent (thanks, disability!) But as I grow up, I am increasingly learning the value and power of community.
Thank you for reading and supporting me with whatever way you can in this journey!
Love you all!
