I’m fundraising for my niece, Molly, who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 36. Her children are three and 12 years old. Though her husband, friends, and extended family are very supportive, these are the things we are hoping to support her with for comfort in the days to come and with building a lasting legacy for her family.
- $25,000 for down payment on a house on one level so she can care for her family as long as she is able and then receive care in her own home as needed. She is currently in a rental house with all bedrooms upstairs. She has excellent credit and her husband's job would qualify them for the purchase; along with family co-signers if needed.
- $2500 for medical expenses not covered by insurance
- $1000 for a memory garden that the family can build together
- $4000 for her husband's lost wages as he cares for her during chemo treatments which will continue for the rest of her life
- $0 for your love and prayers for a miracle that these cancer cells will stop in their tracks in the face of these latest treatments.
I'll add some details in her own words from her Instagram, moto_dame:
"Here we are again:
Although it is abundantly clear that the thing I fight to live for is my family, the very real grief that I will never get to compete in Jiu-Jitsu again still hits me hard on a regular basis. I always had this visual in my mind of this great comeback to the competition mats after all of the hours in the infusion room that were symbolic of me stepping up to face this beast head-on over and over again.
The reality is that my bones are now riddled with cancer, throughout my spine, my ribs, tailbone, and pelvis, and are all at high risk of breaking Even if these treatments completely kill the cancer or keep it in check, I'm left with brittle bones, particularly where the cancer spread and ate away at a large part of my pelvis. We are going to start some bone strengthening infusions every few months in addition to chemo, but even if we get this disease under control, its structural integrity will never be the same.
I have to accept the reality that the rest of my battles will be celebrated just like this: hand in the air, one round complete in a bracket that never ends."
