Help Molly & Chris Move

Well this has been a helluva day. As y'all know, we've been planning to move to OH because the cost of living in Seattle has grown beyond what we can afford.

So we looked at our options and ordered a 16'x7'x7' moving pod because that's what was recommended for a 2-3 bedroom apartment. Perfect! The container had a weight limit of 6,000 lbs but we figured if it's designed for a 2-3 BR apartment, we'd be good. We don't have lots of heavy furniture or books - just the usual household stuff.

Over the past 5 days, Chris single-handedly filled the pod. Seriously: all by himself. Thanks, COVID. He did an amazing job and tetris-ed everything beautifully.

T-0 days and counting, the pod company comes to pick up the container, and it's too heavy.  WAY too heavy. Too heavy by almost double. I guess the pod company thinks people either can't pack their stuff well or they have lots and lots and lots of lightweight items. A pod full of pillows, maybe?

Anyway, here we are all packed up and trying to figure out what to do. At best, we're looking at double the cost to rent another container, which means unpacking and repacking everything by ourselves. Another option - slightly more - is to get movers to just come and take it.

We're at a loss and we're stuck here, with all our stuff packed up. We're staying at an airbnb for a couple of days as we figure this out, but no matter what, this is going to kill us financially.

We don't have credit cards to max out (because we try to be fiscally responsible and CCs don't support that) and our savings is already going toward the move.  I'm going to dip into my retirement, but that's taken a big hit lately (again, thanks, COVID), so I can't do as much as I might've a month ago. We have family that can help a bit, but they've already been helping us a lot, so.

So. We're reaching out to y'all. This is a shitty time to be asking for help, I know. I get it if you can't. But if you can, we'd be immensely, deeply, humbly grateful. I'll even send you some art once we're there and unpacked (as long as I have your address).

Bottom line is that it's going to cost approximately $3,300 to rent a second pod; $5,200 more if we say eff it and go with movers.

Anything you can share, will make a difference.
