Help Moka Fight Cancer

Meet Moka, the sweetest, silliest, most happy-go-lucky and affectionate cuddle butt around.

We adopted Moka in July of 2021 from a shelter in Costa Rica (Charlie’s Angels, Costa Rica) and a Toronto-based rescue (Save Our Scruff). He is a 5-year-old loveable scruff.

Moka was adopted along with his BFF Larry. Moka and Larry were both strays living in Costa Rica. They are the definition of a bonded pair, they are brothers who remind everyone around them of the power of unconditional love, kindness, humour and of course friendship.

Adopting a dog was an exciting chapter in Moka's dog-parents' (Sarah and David) lives. Sarah battled papillary thyroid carcinoma for nearly 4 years. After treatment, Sarah received the good news that she was cancer-free. To celebrate ending this dark chapter of their lives Sarah and David decided it was time to welcome a fur member into their family.

However, cancer knows no boundaries. What has felt like a cruel twist of fate our family has yet again been impacted by cancer. After New Year’s, Moka was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma.

Without treatment, Moka’s tumour will spread throughout his body.

We are devastated and our hearts are utterly broken. We have decided to pursue treatment. Moka needs surgery to remove the mass. Surgical resection of thyroid carcinoma is associated with a good prognosis for dogs. Surgery will increase his quality of life and give us all more time to spend together.

We are doing everything we can to help Moka fight cancer.

Moka has brought us an immense amount of comfort and solace during so much uncertainty of the pandemic. He is the heartbeat of our family and has filled every corner of our home with so much joy, unconditional love and laughter.

We cannot imagine our lives without him and it is unbearable to think of Larry losing his very best friend.
