Mojo is the only animal I've ever had, and she’s been by my side for 11 years. Through six different homes and a cross-country move from Texas to California, she’s been my one constant companion and emotional support. I can’t imagine life without her, and she’s helped me through every tough moment I’ve faced.
Recently, Mojo was attacked by a stray cat. What started as a small bite quickly turned into a severe infection, creating an abscess that grew rapidly. The abscess ruptured, leaving a deep wound surrounded by decaying tissue and infection. If left untreated, she would have faced sepsis, organ failure, and likely death within days. I realized waiting for a clinic appointment wasn’t an option—she needed immediate care, even though I knew I couldn’t afford it. I rushed her to PESC in La Mesa, a 24/7 vet hospital, where she was treated right away. The team administered pain meds, sedation, cleaned and drained her wound, mended the laceration, and inserted a drainage tube that I now have to manage daily.
The bill for her emergency care was much higher than I expected. I was able to get some support through CareCredit, but I had to pay the rest out of pocket—money I needed for overdue bills and food. I work in the service industry and had just missed a week of work before this happened, so I’m now struggling to pay for basic needs. I’ve never asked for help before, but I’m financially in a hole and feeling overwhelmed. Any support, no matter how small, would mean the world to me and Mojo. Thank you for considering helping us.
