Mohammed Ashoor and He is 22 years old living in Gaza, Palestine. One day when I was 8 years old, I woke up to loud explosions and shootings. I heard many people screaming outside and suddenly leaving their homes with so much fear on their faces. The sound of the explosions and shootings started getting closer to our home. In fear, my family and I left our home to escape to our relatives home in hopes to find a safer place to be in. But once we arrived to our relatives we realized the attacks were everywhere. The attacks were destroying the homes all around us including our own.
I didn't realize what was happening all around me until I woke up and found myself in the hospital and hearing the voices of the doctors and nurses. The doctors were saying "we need to give him blood immediately otherwise we will lose him." When I woke up I saw my parents faces and that brought me relief to know they were still alive. The doctors took me into the operating room and that was when I noticed my arm was barely hanging on by its skin. My parents were told by the doctors that if surgery isn't done immediately to amputate my right arm they will lose me forever due to excessive bleeding. My parents consented to the surgery to save my life.
From the moment I woke up to an amputated arm, that was when I began to question how will I go on with my life with only one arm? That was also when I began encountering many more hardships. I began noticing people's stares and how they would feel bad for me. This all started affecting how I felt. Everytime I would go to school I would get bullied about being a one-armed boy and this greatly affected my self-esteem. Eventually I stopped going to school due to the bullying and kept myself in the house.
I only hope and wish for a working arm so that I can live a normal life doing everyday activities like everyone else. This is the one dream I had wished for since that day.
