Help a Gazan Rebuild His Life & Rescue His Family
Donation protected
Hello kind souls,
My name is Mohammad, and I’m an English teacher from Gaza.
On the morning of October 5th, 2023, I had no idea it would be the last normal day of my life. I woke up early, dressed in my freshly ironed suit, and walked to Al-Azhar University where I proudly worked. I sipped my coffee in peace. I still remember the taste.
Two days later, everything was gone. The war broke out, and I was forced to flee with nothing but the clothes on my back. I lost my job, my home, my students, my books and eventually, parts of myself. I’ve been displaced over ten times since. For nearly two years now, I’ve watched my people starve, my city crumble, and my loved ones die.
There were days I forgot who I was. My dreams shrank down to bags of flour and a place to sleep away from the bombs. But I refused to give in.
I fought to remember the person I used to be - a teacher, a dreamer, a son. I kept applying, kept writing, and somehow, against all odds, I was awarded a fully-funded scholarship to pursue my Master’s in TESOL at the University of Alberta in Canada.
This scholarship is more than a second chance- it’s the first step toward rescuing my family. They are still trapped in Gaza. Still suffering. Still waiting. Now that I have this opportunity, I’ve made it my mission to prioritize getting them out and giving them back a life with dignity.
So I am reaching out not for me this time, but for them. Your support can help me secure a safe path for my family, to bring them out of a place where hope is running dry. Every donation, every share, every kind word - it all brings us one step closer to safety, to healing, and to starting again.
Thank you for reading my story. Thank you for believing that even in the darkest places, light can still find a way.
With love and determination,
Mohammad
