Dear Friends,
Breast cancer strikes 1 in 7 women and many of us know someone dear to us who has been stricken with the disease. Some even have experienced it within our own families. It doesn’t discriminate on who it may touch, a grandparent, parent, daughter, aunt, or even a best friend. It knows no particular age group, young or old. With that being said, if you are a member at TPC Piper Glen or a frequent guest, you all have probably interacted here at TPC Piper Glen with Tom Maxwell, our Director of Golf/Operations; you may also have had the wonderful opportunity to meet his beautiful, charming wife, Moffatt and their engaging four year old daughter, Elora, or maybe met them during one of the many family events at the club. Family is always first in Tom’s mind and he is a very proud person with regards to his family. In March of this year, Moffatt was shockingly and unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast cancer. For them, it has been a whirlwind of doctors and tests and more doctors. Quickly after her diagnosis, their tough journey began. Moffatt had major surgery and is courageously fighting this disease by undergoing a 20-week regimen of chemotherapy, to be followed by six weeks of radiation therapy. Tom is a very humble person and has said very little about what his wife and family have been going through, trying to keep it close to the chest but such serious matters affect every aspect of a family’s life, and inevitably the word starts to spread, as it has here at Piper Glen and beyond.
When speaking with Tom and discussing how we all could help, Tom said the number one priority of his, is the ability to help Moffatt any way he possibly can to keep her as healthy physically and emotionally as possible and also keep their family grounded with some since of normalcy. This journey that Moffett, Tom and Elora face will be tough, as she will be unable to work for a period of time according to Tom, so therefore the ramifications – including financial - are serious and far-reaching as people can imagine.
Many people have asked already what they can do to help Tom and his family get through this fight and figured the best way to help is to take some of the financial worry off the table. The funds will be used to help with the medical copays and deductibles as well as what insurance doesn't pay and sudden partial loss of Moffatt's income. So if you are able to and find it in your heart to donate to the Maxwell Family’s Go Fund Me page, your gift will help ease some of that burden for them, as they may then be able to concentrate on fighting and winning this huge battle that is before them. They will be forever grateful for the kindness and generosity shown to their family.
Thank you, thank you, thank you and please feel free to share this to friends and family.
