Help Moe's Family Rebuild and Evacuate from Gaza

I'm Roger Sioufi, a software engineering student from Canada, reaching out with a heartfelt plea for Mohammad Younis, my dear friend and a gifted computer engineer from Gaza. Currently, he's living in Rafah with 25 family members crammed into a modest 2-bedroom apartment.

I've started this fundraiser to assist Mohammad in saving his family's lives by evacuating them to Egypt.

THE ONLY WAY TO EVACUATE GAZA IS BY PAYING AN IMMIGRATION COMPANY (Hala) TO PREPARE A PERMIT TO CROSS THE BORDERS TO EGYPT.

I met Mohammad back in virtually 2019 while working on a software development project. Despite facing adverse conditions, including electricity shortages and airstrikes, he consistently delivered high-quality work. Our collaboration spanned countless days and nights of discussions and work over Zoom calls. The extensive time we spent together not only built a strong professional relationship but also made us like brothers. We discussed all sorts of topics, drawing us closer. For those who know me well, they understand the depth of my friendship with Mohammad.

In 2021, we both traveled to Turkey to meet in person for a week. After our meeting, I returned to Canada, and he went back to Gaza to take care to his family.

Surviving numerous crises in Gaza, the current situation is notably dire. With minimal resources for survival dwindling and hope fading each day, the urgency to evacuate grows.

The path to evacuation leads through immigration to Egypt, requiring a permission fee from the Egyptian authorities—8,500$ per adult and 4200$ per teenager.

Mohammad's immediate family living in the cramped apartment includes:
  • His parents,
  • Youssef Younis, his brother, along with Youssef's wife and son,
  • Marah Younis, his sister, her husband, and their three children,
  • Amal Younis, another sister, her husband, and their three children,
  • Asma Younis, his sister,
  • Iman Younis, his sister, her husband, and their three children,
  • Wafak Younis, his sister, her husband, and their three children.

This family has lost all their homes and is now staying together in one apartment in Rafah that has not yet been bombed.

Convincing the family to leave Rafah was an immense challenge, as it is their homeland. The decision to evacuate is not merely a logistical one; it is laden with the emotional weight of leaving behind a lifetime, memories, and the legacy of generations. Your support acts as a strong incentive for them, offering a beacon of hope and a tangible sign that they are not alone in this difficult transition.

To evacuate the entire family, we need approximately 160,000$ , plus additional funds (10,000$) to support them during their initial months in Egypt and transportations to the borders.

Our goal is to help as many family members as possible to relocate safely. Once in Egypt, the prospects for rebuilding their lives look promising. Mohammad can resume his work as a software engineer remotely, his brother, an electrical engineer, is likely to find employment swiftly, and one of his sisters, a dentist, also has a good chance of quickly reestablishing her career.

Thanks to your support, we can make a significant difference in their lives. If you're unable to contribute financially, please consider sharing this with someone who supports the cause and would like to help a family in need.

I will be following up personally with the family to ensure they receive the support they need during this transition.
