Help Moe Recover

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Jen, and I'm raising money for my cousin Maurice on his families behalf.

On March 11, 2020 Moe woke up with a massive headache, neck pain, and lots of nausea. He decided to take some aspirin and go back to bed for another 45 minutes. When he got up again the pain in his head and neck was even worse, and the nausea was out of control. Lynn heard him coming from down the hall, and noticed he was dragging his foot and slurring his speech. She called 9-1-1 thinking he was having a stroke.

Moe was taken to Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) by ambulance, and given a CT scan. This showed that he had a brain bleed on the right side, which caused the pressure to increase on his brain. He needed emergency brain surgery right away or he wouldn't survive.

After a 3 hour surgery, Moe didn't wake up, and the doctors weren't sure what the outcome would be. For the next 12 days, Moe didn't regain consciousness, but sometimes responded to painful stimuli. We were told that his responses would vary day to day after having a traumatic brain injury and that this will be a very long road for Moe over the next couple months. It might even take years to regain some, hopefully all, of his motor skills back.

I'm happy to report that over the last 4 days the nurses have him sitting in a chair for a few hours each day, and his eyes are staying open for longer periods of time. He is responding to commands better and better each day. We're hopeful that with lots of therapy, and all the great staff at VGH, he will make a good, if not full recovery. For now, we're taking it day by day.

Moe and his family have a long road to recovery ahead. With these circumstances, they are now facing some financial strain as well. Any help to take the financial strain off Lynn and Moe so they can focus all their strength on getting him home and well would be appreciated.
