Moe, my beloved inside dog, went missing on a Sunday morning after a delivery driver didn’t close my fence gate completely. I spent hours searching the neighborhood, calling his name, and trying to follow any lead I could find. When I noticed paw prints near my neighbor’s gate and saw that the ground was mostly covered in ice, I feared Moe had slipped down the embankment behind their house. Despite my efforts, including reaching out to a thermal drone service, they were not able to come. I continued searching through Sunday and into Monday, expanding my search to surrounding neighborhoods and putting up flyers, worried that maybe someone had taken him. For three days, I searched tirelessly, hoping Moe was just lost and not hurt. On the third day, a kind person named Kevin saw my missing dog post and offered his drone services. In less than five minutes, he found Moe—injured but alive—down the embankment beside a train track. Moe had suffered traumatic injuries and needed immediate help. I rushed him to Virginia Tech animal hospital, where he underwent emergency spinal surgery. The cost of his care has been overwhelming, and I have already paid a significant portion out of my own pocket to give Moe the best chance at recovery, but I can’t do it alone.
