About AYHEM & Why This Matters:

African Youth Health Education Magnet Solutions (AYHEM) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing health, education, and community well-being in underserved rural communities in Kenya.

Founded in 2008, AYHEM strengthens local institutions by investing in long-term infrastructure that improves quality of life. In 2019, we built the Kagaa Community Library to expand access to books and learning resources for students in Kiambaa County.

Today, we are focused on restoring the Kagaa Village Health Centre — a rural clinic originally built in the early 1970s that has not undergone major renovation in over 50 years.

Every month, approximately 2,000 patients rely on this facility.
But the conditions are deeply strained.

Patients often wait outside because the clinic has only an outdoor waiting area. Sick children, elderly patients, and pregnant women sit in the open air — in rain, heat, or cold — waiting to be seen.
The maternity unit is critically under-equipped. There is only one functioning delivery bed. A second bed is broken. There is inadequate recovery space for mothers after childbirth, limited shower facilities, and insufficient room for privacy and dignity.

For many women in Kagaa and surrounding villages such as Kambaa, Gitiha, and Kamburu, traveling to a better-equipped maternity hospital is not realistic. The nearest referral hospital is 30 kilometers away — nearly 1.5 hours by transport. For families without reliable transportation or financial resources, that distance is simply not an option.

So mothers rely on this clinic.
Despite aging plumbing, outdated sanitation systems, unreliable electricity, and limited emergency equipment.

This is why we are raising $75,000 through GoFundMe to begin Phase One of a full $300,000 renovation.

Phase One will support
• Structural roof and ceiling repairs
• Plumbing and sanitation upgrades
• Expansion of maternity and recovery space
• Replacement of the incinerator
• Basic medical equipment procurement
• Electrical stabilization and standby power

This campaign is the first step toward restoring safe, dignified healthcare access for families in Kagaa.

No mother should have to choose between distance and safety.
No patient should wait outside in harsh weather for basic care.
No rural clinic serving 2,000 patients each month should be operating with one delivery bed, a deteriorating roof, outdated plumbing, and unstable power.

Help us begin the restoration.
