My dog Mochico is a 7-month-old Maltipoo Shih Tzu mix who means everything to me. He’s not just a pet—he’s my support animal and has brought so much comfort and joy into my life, even though we haven’t been together for very long. Recently, I noticed something was wrong when his poop was unusually dark and I found a nail from a cabinet in it. I rushed him to the vet after Martin Luther King’s Day, hoping for answers and help.

At the vet, they gave Mochico fluids and monitored him closely to see if the nail would pass. But when they did an x-ray, they discovered something even more concerning—a coin lodged in his upper GI tract. The vet explained that the safest option might be surgery if they can’t remove the coin through endoscopy. As someone who is currently unemployed and working hard in nursing school, I’m struggling to cover the costs of his care. Mochico hasn’t been with me for long, but he’s already become my emotional anchor and best friend.
