Nothing can prepare you for receiving a life changing diagnosis, especially when you are only 29, and trying to keep up with the demands of work and raising three beautiful children. My sweet friend and co-worker M’Kaila Cox knew something wasn’t right when she started experiencing symptoms she had never felt before. M’Kaila is a Teacher of the Deaf and continued to work, while simultaneously being shuffled through the medical system filled with specialists, testing, lots of emergency visits, and feeling worse than ever. In July of 2025 she received news that no one wants to: thyroid cancer with unclear answers of how far it had spread. She underwent surgery in October of 2025 and was hopeful that all of the cancer was removed. Weeks went by and M’Kaila got more news. The first surgery was not successful in removing all of the cancer and she was scheduled for yet another surgery. M’Kaila spent Christmas of 2025 recovering from that surgery and now has yet another challenge ahead of her. She is scheduled to begin treatments in June which will require isolation from her children and family for a period of time. If you are able to donate any amount, funds will go towards food and lodging for M’Kaila during this time, cost of child care since she will not be allowed to be near her children, and towards the overall growing medical bills that she is incurring.
