MJ is 2 years old & was diagnosed with a terminal genetic disorder called Mucolipidosis Type 2 also known as I-cell disease. ML2 is a lysosomal storage disorder that causes storage in the body. He is very small for his age due to his disease which also comes with challenges. He has skeletal deformities, corse facial features, 60 degree scoliosis, respiratory issues, physical delays, & so on. Mj has been in & out of the hospital since he was 5 months old due to his illness & has been on oxygen ever since he turned 6 months old. Recently Mj has been hospitalized for ARDS pneumonia which has quickly became more difficulty. His storage disorder is showing up in his throat which makes sense of the respiratory issues he has been facing. He is also gtube dependent because of the matter. MJ will be having a tracheostomy to help him breathe a bit easier & to also have an easier way to help him due to his difficult airways. The medical team at Huntsville had a hard time & it took almost 2 hours for a successful intubation. Beyond thankful for their determination & wanting to help ease the stress on MJ’s body & lungs. Due to MJ have to have surgery, his parents will be out of work to learn how to take care of his trach. If he needs a ventilator of any sorts to help him breathe, they will have to stay at Birmingham for over two months. His parents are looking at several months of being in the hospital for educational purposes to better care for their son’s new medical needs & equipment. His mother & father are no longer able to work due to the needs of their son.
