Miss District High 2024 Saint Lucia

Call for Support in Empowering Performing Arts Through Intensive Jamaican Workshop

Miya Johnson, a vibrant and driven 15-year-old, isn't just the reigning Miss District High 2024 in Saint Lucia. She's also a passionate advocate for expanding performing arts opportunities within her country, and she's channeling that passion into a tangible effort to uplift her peers and herself.

In the spirit of Youth Month, Miya is spearheading a fundraising initiative to enable herself and a group of talented young dancers to participate in an intensive dance workshop at the prestigious Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts in Jamaica.

"This is very dear to me," Miya explains. "Access to quality training and performance platforms is crucial for young artists in Saint Lucia. This workshop is a stepping stone, a chance to hone our skills and bring back valuable knowledge to share with our community."

The month-long program at the Edna Manley College offers accredited certification in a range of dance disciplines. This intensive training will not only elevate the dancers' individual abilities but also equip them with the tools and credentials to contribute significantly to the performing arts landscape back home in Saint Lucia.

Miya and her colleagues recognize the transformative potential of this opportunity, and they are appealing to the community for vital support. "We believe that the performing arts can be a powerful force for positive change," Miya states. "This workshop will allow us to grow as artists, develop our leadership skills, and inspire others to pursue their passions."

To make this dream a reality, they have launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $50,000. These funds will cover tuition fees, travel expenses, accommodation, and other necessary costs to make an impact during these workshops.

Miya is extending a heartfelt invitation to everyone who believes in the power of the arts and the potential of young people: "I am truly calling on you to embark on this journey with us. Your support, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in the lives of these young dancers and the future of the performing arts in Saint Lucia."

Join Miya and her colleagues in their mission to elevate the performing arts in Saint Lucia.
