Back in May, Mitch Marder’s world got turned upside down. Feeling abnormally tired, he went to see his doctor. Hours later he was in a hospital bed and was dealt a blow he could have never expected. He was diagnosed with an aggressive pancreatic cancer known as Pancreatic Ductal Carcinoma. This metastasized to his liver, and he developed jaundice and diabetes. He started chemo treatments shortly thereafter, and his life now consists of these treatments, injections to boost his white blood cell count, scans, insulin shots and many doctor’s appointments.
Despite valiant efforts to continue working, the devastating side-effects of the chemotherapy have forced him to leave his job. In addition to the costs of treatment, Mitch and Geri have a grown daughter with special needs who is completely reliant on them financially. Mitch also needs to take Creon, a pancreatic supplement that allows him to digest food. This costs $10,000 per year, and is not covered by insurance. Additionally, he hopes to qualify for immunotherapy, which may be a game changer for him, but could cost between $30,000 and $150,000 per year.
A group of us have gotten together to help Mitch and his family in any way possible. One part of this effort is creating a GoFundMe to help them financially. Mitch is without a doubt one of the nicest people you could ever meet, always a loyal friend, loving husband, father and brother, who is highly intelligent with an amazing sense of humor. Now he and his family need your help. Please consider digging deep and helping Mitch and his family in their time of need.
