Mitch was born with spina bifida, but that never stopped him from living life to the fullest. As a child, some of his happiest memories were playing Little League Baseball for the Reds—a team he still cheers for in the MLB today. Even as he began to rely more on his wheelchair by age 10 and underwent nine spinal surgeries before turning 18, Mitch’s determination only grew stronger.
He refused to let his challenges define him. Mitch trained for and completed the St. George Marathon in his racing chair, and in college, he’d seek out the biggest hills to ride down, sometimes reaching speeds of 50 miles an hour with friends cheering him on. He used leg braces and crutches to stay mobile, going camping and hiking whenever he could. Mitch has always worked hard to maintain his independence, finding employment in computer support and warehouse operations, and inspiring everyone around him to push beyond their limits.
Recently, Mitch has faced new complications, losing all remaining feeling and use of his legs. Now, his home urgently needs modifications to be wheelchair accessible—especially the bathroom. On top of that, medical bills are piling up, adding stress to an already difficult situation.
