You may have noticed our absence over the last year and a half. That’s when Mitch was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Chronic Lymphoma Leukemia (CLL), a type of blood cancer. My case is complicated by DNA-induced anemia, which has caused my hemoglobin to drop dangerously low and led to severe symptoms like fatigue, infections, and bleeding.
In 2025, my oncologist told me I had 2-3 years to live. But at the end of 2025, we received news about Venetoclax, a new oral drug designed to reduce leukemia over a two-year timeframe. Coupled with monthly infusions, my doctors now say I have hope for a life extension.
All of this has taken place at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, a leader in leukemia research and treatment. We’ve been staying in the area as required for my care, but soon I’ll be continuing treatments in Alaska under the watchful eyes of Mayo Clinic and Alaska oncologists.
The costs of travel, treatment, and medical care have been beyond our imagination. Venetoclax alone is extremely expensive, and while Medicare helps, we are still left with significant bills.
The last eighteen months have been a whirlwind of medical treatments and hospitalizations, leaving us buried in medical and travel bills. With mounting expenses and an uncertain road ahead, we are reaching out for help.
Any contribution will make a meaningful difference for Donnalee and me as we face this challenging journey together. Your kindness and support are deeply appreciated, and will help us focus on healing and hope for the future.
