If you’re reading this, you might know Mitch Lucas! Mitch is a dear friend to many, and has overcome a lot in the last few years to get to a place of stability and security. Unfortunately, Mitch has had a couple unexpected medical crises this summer, and has been hospitalized twice since late June. At the moment, he is recovering from over two weeks of not being able to keep down solid food (or, much of the time, liquids). He lost 20 pounds over the course of those two weeks and is feeling a little rough, but he’s working on bouncing back! It’s unclear exactly why this has happened, but his doctors theorize that he reached a dangerous level of dehydration in the first few days of his illness, which locked him into a nasty cycle. He has some organ inflammation, but nothing he can’t recover from with plenty of rest and hydration. He is home safe and working on recuperating, and he loves you all!
This period of illness has not only been incredibly physically taxing for Mitch, but has also placed him under heavy financial stress. He typically works culinary jobs that keep him on his feet all day, so he has been unable to work since he became sick. He recently began a new job, and his insurance has not yet kicked in. Two (relatively back-to-back) spates of intense illness have put him behind on rent and bills, and he has around $10k worth of medical debt that he is unable to pay off. He does not like to ask for help, but he’s reached a point where he has no choice but to seek support from his community. Any money that he is able to raise will go towards rent, utilities, food, and paying down hospital bills, so that he can rest up and get back on his feet without having to stress over his basic survival needs.
