Hello. My name is Priscilla and I’m creating this on behalf of my dad, Mitch and step-mom, Lisa.
I’d like to take you back to the beginning of this story. Last year, my dad and step-mom came to us (me and my brothers), that they were going to move from Nebraska to Colorado so they could be closer to family, especially 2 of their grand babies. To others this isn’t a big deal, but my dad was born and raised in Nebraska. He had never lived anywhere else. Everything he had ever known was in Nebraska so this was HUGE. He moved out to Colorado to start looking for a job while Lisa stayed back in Nebraska to get the house ready to sell. She was able to join him a short time later. After a few months of searching, my dad landed a job that requires him to drive to multiple different grocery store locations within the state and even Wyoming.
Fast forward a few months to Thanksgiving. They were on their way back to CO from Kansas City after visiting my brother and his family. My dad was feeling sick and when they got back, he went to urgent care. He was diagnosed with pneumonia. He didn’t have a PCP as he didn’t have insurance yet. He started having migraines that he assumed were from the coughing from the pneumonia. He also started having a strange symptom that he called “floaters” in his vision. These “floaters” were causing him to see vehicles on the road that weren’t actually there. Come mid December, the floaters then started to hide vehicles that WERE there. He went to urgent care again and they sent him to an eye doctor. The eye doctor did not find anything. Because nothing was found, a CT scan was ordered. Urgent care didn’t have any other answers so they sent him to the ER. The ER gave him a “migraine cocktail” and sent him home. These did not help. A week later, he was seen by a neurologist and was diagnosed with ocular migraines. The neurologist prescribed him some medication that he said could take a couple weeks to work. During this time, the CT scan came back clean. We are now to December 27th. After zero improvement from the migraine medication, an MRI was ordered. On January 7th, the MRI was completed and he went back to the neurologist. The MRI showed that my dad had a stroke in his visual cortex. This is a rare area to have a stroke. Thankfully, it was not bleeding. It is the cause of the floaters, hallucinations, and the migraines. Because of the vision issues, my dad has not been able to work since 11/30/24 and he didn’t have insurance until 1/1/25. He is slowly starting to improve, but with a stroke, you never really know how long recovery will take. He is currently off work until June.
On top of the medical issues, other events have happened. He has had a toolbox stolen from his truck and recently, their debit card was stolen and $1,300 was spent.
I am coming to you to ask for any help you are able to give. These 2 have hearts of gold and would drop anything to help those they love and those they don’t know.
