Help Misty Recover from Devastating Animal Attack
Donation protected
On Tuesday 10/15, my dear friend Misty and her boyfriend Clayton were on their morning run just before sunrise, a route and routine they do several times a week. About a mile into their run they came on an unknown animal that charged them (by Clayton's description it was most likely a coyote, but in the predawn dark we cannot be 100% sure.) Misty tried to create space but tripped and fell. As soon as she looked up, the animal attacked her face, ripping off almost all of her nose and causing multiple puncture wounds to her face. Clayton quickly rescued her from the animal, likely saving her life.
Seems like the bad things always happen to the best people - Misty spent 20 years serving others as a police officer and after retiring, she transitioned into helping people get clean from substance abuse. She's also extremely passionate about animal rescue having saved dozens of dogs from the last call list, transporting, fostering over the years, and donating her time and money to rescues. I cannot speak highly enough about Misty and how beautiful her heart is. She always puts other people before herself and when I asked her permission to share her story, she told me she didn't want to bother people, saying others need it more.
Misty will need 4-5 more surgeries (she already had one the day of the attack) to rebuild her nose and fix the damage done by the animal. The plastic surgeon said he thinks he can get her back to about 80% of "normal" but it will take over a year and 5-6 surgeries. While she does have health insurance, but the out-of-pocket deductible is very high. Of course this happens near the end of the year, so she will be out of pocket an additional 10k for the surgeries in the first quarter of 2025.

Anything will help, as the financial burden has already become very, very heavy for her, and she has only begun the recovery process.
Thank you so much!
