Help Misty and Ebi after Altadena fire
Donation protected
Quite a few of you have asked how to emotionally & financially help our friends Misty & Ebi after the complete burning destruction of their Altadena home.
Thought we could try using this platform for being the hands, feet and heart of a spirit of restoration - Matt 25:34-40. My goal is to offer words of encouragement and/or some financial peace of mind and breathing room, as they’re deep in the legal, insurance and site rebuild process. I know that love & support from people like all of us have something to with both how on top of this they are, and how well they appear to be handling losing HOME and all that goes with that. Kurt and I helped them dig amongst charcoaled rubble and ash on January 20th, and unless you’ve lost a home to fire or are a hero of a fireman, you could have no idea. What we experienced (while avoiding injury from nails, fallen walls and sharp metal and concrete) was unimaginable. They were able to take minimal documents & photos with them upon evacuation, but only had about 15 minutes to do so. I was thankful we could walk with them through the ash afterwards. It was an honor to help unearth a few pieces of pottery from Betty, Misty’s Mom, pieces of their son’s golf trophy, and a couple of Ebi’s tools. Kurt was able to pry open the safe with a shovel where Ebi retrieved her intact engagement ring, but sadly there was little else. I can’t thank you enough for your prayers, encouraging words and even financial consideration – whether you know Misty, my dear friend I met in sixth grade in Downey, or if you haven’t met her yet. Really.
