Hello Friends, Family, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,

My name is Missy Powell and I am reaching out during one of the most challenging times of my life.

In 2014, I was first diagnosed with Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma, a type of salivary gland cancer. I had my first intensive and reconstructive surgery that involved a trach, a feeding tube, and parts of my forearm being used to rebuild my tongue in April of 2014. I was then diagnosed with the same cancer in 2018, 2019, 2022, and most recently in December of 2025.

After several surgeries and rounds of radiation concentrated in the same general area (head, neck, and throat), my options for treatment have become more limited. The only surgical option to remove my cancer now would not only be extensive with a long recovery time, but it would also mean the loss of my voice box. I am choosing my family, my grandchildren, and my quality of life and I hope to avoid that surgery if at all possible.

I have been unable to work since January 13th, 2026 because of biopsies, unexpected hospital visits, and declining health. Because of the previous surgeries and radiation, I am no longer able to eat by mouth and rely on a feeding tube for my vital nutrients. I recently traveled to MD Anderson in Houston, TX to explore non-surgical treatment options and I am looking at possibly receiving treatment there.

Even with health insurance, the medical bills are mounting up. Every donation, no matter the size, will bring me closer to healing for myself and my future. All donations will go towards medical bills, travel costs for treatment, essential medications and food, rehabilitation (various types of speech and physical therapy), and my overall recovery.
