Approximately four years ago, Missy tripped over her little puppy, Charlie, who ended up becoming her angel. The fall resulted in a crushed L3 vertebra, which required immediate surgery. During this time, she was diagnosed with plasmacytoma, a type of cancer. Missy was told radiation would be needed to stop the spread, but unfortunately, the cancer had already spread throughout her body. She needed immediate chemotherapy and many units of blood to try and save her life. Her kidneys shut down, requiring dialysis, and there were moments when Missy wasn't sure if she would make it through. But God had another plan for her.
Missy began to recover and started treatments at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. She worked with an oncologist there, as well as her local oncologist, and together they decided a bone marrow transplant using Missy's own bone marrow was necessary. Her time at Moffitt was incredibly tough, but Missy was even tougher. After several months in the hospital, she was required to stay at a local hotel during her recovery. She lost her hair, couldn't be with her husband and two sons in Winter Haven, and was too weak to walk or drive to her appointments. Thankfully, Missy had wonderful friends and family who stayed with her and helped her get strong enough to attend her daily appointments at Moffitt.
Missy is still fighting every day to kick cancer’s ass. She is fighting for her life, but also for her kids and her husband. The financial burden of her insurance premiums and out-of-pocket medical costs is overwhelming, and any support you can offer will help Missy continue her battle. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to her and her family.
