Missy’s Fight Against Stage 4 Brain Cancer: Glioblastoma
Hello, my name is Mickensie, and I’m reaching out during one of the most challenging times my family has ever faced. My mom, Missy, was recently diagnosed on December 24th, 2024 with Stage 4 Brain Cancer, Glioblastoma, an aggressive and fast-growing brain tumor with no cure, the average life expectancy is 18 months. Glioblastoma is one of the hardest cancers to treat. This diagnosis has brought unimaginable pain and hardship to our lives that was never expected. If you know my mother, you know she would give the shirt off of her back to anyone, and has helped numerous people in our community without hesitation or recognition. She is one of the most kind, caring, compassionate woman you could ever meet. Always a giver, and never a taker. Being a caregiver just comes natural to her and she needs to know it’s okay to put herself first and ask for help when needed. She has always been my biggest cheerleader and the rock of our family. My mom is a ray of sunshine and has had such positive energy during this diagnosis, still putting everyone's emotions/feelings first. We love her so very much.
Missy became a Grammy to my son who turned 1, in November, he has been one of her greatest joys in life. I live 3hrs away, so we’re hoping to be here for her as much as possible, but still working and trying to keep her spirit positive, during the next months to come.
Weekend before Christmas my mom started having bad headache's and problems with her vision. After visiting us in the twin cities she went straight to the ER and they sent her in for a ct scan, Tomah then had her directly admitted to neurology in Lacrosse for a MRI. The MRI revealed she had a large tumor causing the brain to swell, her headaches and vision issues. This type of cancer is so aggressive it had grew to that size in less than 3 months. They did emergency craniotomy surgery Christmas Eve morning to remove most of the tumor as safe as possible. Missy was in ICU for a few days, still in good spirits. She will soon be undergoing multiple sessions of chemotherapy and radiation, along with multiple MRIs to watch the progress. The medical bills, even with insurance will be mounting rapidly, and will be a struggle to keep up with as the cost of her treatments and care will be very costly. Missy is unable to work and run her assisted living business, The Greenfield House at this time, as you can imagine the stress of that alone, financially and mentally. We are hoping and praying to get her into Mayo for treatment or a clinical trial that is available. Neither her insurance or her cancer policy will be enough to help cover these expenses. That is why we’re asking for help. The standard of care treatment is all in hopes to give her a wonderful quality of life, along with higher hopes of giving her a longer than average prognosis, to enjoy as much time with family and friends. Every donation will go directly toward her care, meals, transportation, bills, and will make a huge difference in our ability to keep supporting her during this fight.
I know times are very challenging for many people, so if you’re not able to donate, please consider sharing this page with your friends and family. Your thoughts, prayers, and support are just as valuable to us. To those who have already contributed in any way, words cannot express how grateful we are for your kindness and generosity. You have given us hope, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With love and gratitude, Mickensie.
