I’m heading to South Africa in December to the Eastern Cape where I grew up. Exciting times ahead for our little family as we catch up with our wonderful family and friends, soak up the country's incredible soul and take in the African bush we miss so much.
However, this visit will also be a stark reminder that over 73% of the population in the Eastern Cape lives below the poverty line struggling to get even one daily meal. Food, shelter and warmth are basic human rights and with all the wealth in the world, I feel really passionately that everyone should have at least that.
We’ll be visiting the Missonvale Care Centre with a $$ donation to help those who desperately need it and started this GoFundMe campaign in the hope that more would get on board and we could bring a little extra Christmas joy to a truly impoverished community.
Missionvale is an incredible place offering food, medical help, primary schooling and skills training to those who have nothing. The Centre was set up by the wonderful Sister Ethel, a remarkable woman who has changed the world for the 120,000 plus who call Missionvale home. To meet Sister Ethel, please watch the two part story below - you won't be sorry when you do!
We're hoping to raise some funds to donate when we are there, and believe me, in Africa a little goes a long way...
For a contribution of $50, you will provide 10 families with a food parcel and ensure they have some basic nutrition to sustain them for a week.
For every $270 raised, we can give a weekly food parcel to a hungry family of four for the whole of 2019.
For $400 we can feed 700 families a meal of soup and bread.
For a monthly contribution of $30, you will provide a family with food for an entire month. They will receive a weekly food parcel as well as daily bread and soup powder. That's $7 per week, less than two coffee for us who can afford it. If you'd like to organise a monthly direct debit to help a family on an ongoing basis, please click here and submit the form to me at [email redacted].au and I can arrange to set it up with the charity.
All donations come with a tax receipt.
Here's an introduction to the Centre...
The Missionvale Care Centre was founded by Sister Ethel Normoyle, from humble beginnings, under a tree in 1988. It has grown into a centre which provides love and care for the poor and destitute with a wonderful soup kitchen, medical clinic, clothing bank and school.
