Hi, my name is Dani, and I’m here asking for help with the most important thing in my life right now. Miss Rose, my sweet rescue cat.
Almost three months ago, I adopted her from a shelter in Toronto. At the time, her name was Gigi. I was told she was healthy, fully vaccinated, shy but adjusting, and that she didn’t need to see a vet anytime soon.
This is my first pet ever, and I wanted to do everything right. I was still in the process of getting insurance quotes when I started noticing that her shyness felt more like fear. In the first month, I gave her space. But by the second month, she began hiding more, became more reactive, and stopped eating dry food.
I brought her to the vet, initially just to trim her nails and check on her appetite. But what I thought was a routine visit turned into a heartbreaking discovery: Miss Rose is suffering from severe gingivitis, possibly linked to Feline Leukemia (FeLV) or FIV — conditions that two veterinarians now believe were pre-existing.
They explained that this level of dental disease doesn’t appear overnight, especially in a cat that’s only two years old. It was also mentioned that she had been recently spayed, which means this inflammation should have already been visible at the time of her surgery. She lived in a shared space with other cats at the shelter but was not vaccinated for FeLV, which raises even more concerns.
The estimated cost for her urgent dental procedure, bloodwork, and exams is $4,115.46 CAD. I’m attaching the full estimate from the clinic, and I also have vet notes if anyone wants them. The veterinarian was kind and clear: Rose is in pain. She’s not chewing her food, and if there’s an underlying condition like FeLV, it must be addressed urgently.
I was planning ahead with pet insurance, but now that she’s been diagnosed with a potential pre-existing condition, I can’t get coverage.
I understand adoption contracts and risks, but I can’t lie: I feel deceived. I now found out that the shelter has very poor reviews, and I no longer feel safe trusting them with her care.
So here I am, asking for help from anyone who can. Every dollar, every share, every kind thought means everything. I just want to relieve Miss Rose’s pain and give her the safe life she deserves.
If we raise the full amount and end up spending less, I will donate the remaining funds to a trusted animal rescue. That way, your help could support Miss Rose and possibly another animal in need. I will share all steps and updates. complete transparency.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping me fight for her.
