Help Miss Kim's Journey to Recovery

Dear friends, family, and our resilient Middletown community,

We come to you with heavy hearts and a plea for support during an incredibly challenging time for our beloved mom, Kimberleigh Spreen—or Miss Kim, as many know her.

Last Sunday, as our mom was on her way to pick up a child for a birthday party, she was T-boned by a reckless driver who sped through a red light on Rte 36 in Leonardo at over 50mph. The impact of the collision threw her car 40 yards, leaving her trapped as the vehicle began to smoke. Emergency services, using the jaws of life, heroically rescued her and transported her to an emergency trauma center where she underwent a 6-hour major orthopedic surgery.

Our mom’s injuries include a broken femur, a fractured pelvis, three fractured vertebrae, and a head laceration. Due to her injuries she is currently unable to walk, stand, and cannot sit up independently; meaning she will have to proceed with intensive inpatient physical therapy. Our mom’s recovery is going to be a long and challenging journey, but those who know her recognize her radiance, her strength, and her energy for life.

As we grapple with the emotional toll of this incident, we find ourselves in a difficult position, navigating the complexities of her care without the financial support we anticipated.

Our mom (“Miss Kim”) has dedicated 15 years of her life as a paraprofessional at Bayview Elementary school. She has worked tirelessly, supporting children with multiple disabilities, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. Despite her invaluable contributions, her job did not provide health insurance, and we have also learned that there is no coverage for disability leave. With her injuries preventing her return to work for the remainder of the school year, she will no longer receive income.

Adding to our challenges, we discovered that her individual health insurance was not active on the day of the accident. This has left us in a total mess as we cope with the magnitude of the incident while trying to coordinate the right path of care for her recovery.

We are grateful for any help you can provide, whether it's through a donation or by sharing this campaign with your network. We sincerely appreciate everyone who has taken the time to visit and send their well wishes— your support brightens her day and makes her realize how lucky she is to have a community filled with love.

Love Always,
Conner, Kaeleigh, and Kendall Spreen.
