Miss Dixie is an impoverished elderly woman in West Louisville who has turned her humble home into an animal shelter for abandoned and injured animals dumped on her property. Almost the entirety of Miss Dixie's fixed income is delegated to paying on her massive vet bill with the wonderful Rescue One Vet, cat litter and food for 60 cats, and dog food for 5-10 dogs. She constantly strives to find loving homes for the animals she takes in after they are spayed/neutered and vetted, but the rate at which she takes in animals vastly exceeds the rate of her finding adopters.
Early this week, her early-20s grandson, who she raised and has lived with her for the past several years, was murdered in a random mugging while walking down to the local corner store at 28th and W Market to buy Miss Dixie a soda.
Now, in addition to her $4,000+ outstanding rolling vet bill with Rescue One, Miss Dixie is scrambling to make funeral arrangements for her murdered grandson.
Please consider donating to this saint of a woman's cause, as she has dedicated her life to helping so many other lives. For additional information, contact Sarah Daniel at [email redacted] or Pit Bulls of St. Francis on Facebook. Thank you so much for taking the time to read her story!
